Seven Day Trek in the Simien Mountain National Park
Day 1: Today we transfer from Gondar to Sankabar camp in the Simien Mountain National Park. You will be dropped off approximately two hours before the campsite with your guide to begin your hiking and to enjoy the views of the National Park. It is highly likely that you will spot large groups of Gelada Baboon and you will be able to get amongst them in a very relaxed environment. As these Baboons are herbivores, they pose no threat to humans. Tonight will be spent camping at Sankabar at an altitude of 3250m above sea level.
Day 2: This morning we set out from Sanakabar for a 6 hour hike to Gich camp via Jinibar falls. Tonight we camp at 3600m.
Day 3: Todays trek is approximately 9 hours from Gich to Chennek (3620m) via Imet Gogo. At Imet Gogo there are excellent views of the Simien escarpment. Gich plateau has an abundance of the endemic plant Giant Lobelia and it may be possible to view more Gelada monkeys, Walia ibex and the rare Ethiopian wolf.
Day 4: Today we trek the second highest peak in the Simien Mountains Bwahit, at 4430m. We then head to Sona camp, the last camp in the highlands to relax after the 8 hour climb.
Day 5: This morning we begin our descent to the lowlands as we trek to Mekarbiya camp. At 2065m above sea level, this trek is around 5 hours.
Day 6: Another 5 hours hike today takes us from Mekarbiya to Mulit camp at 2100m.
Day 7: Our final days sees us taking a short morning trek to Adiarkay where we will be met and transferred back to Gondar.
